30-11 with 7+ minutes left in the half.
44 - 28 Dayton lead at the half. I know we are used to a big Billiken rally in the second half like they did vs vcu, but that game was in St. Louis. This is a more serious deficit and, as well as the Flyers are playing, may be harder to overcome.

Are they reading their press clippings of being a near shoo-in for an at-large?

GIVING DAY 2023
I believe we need to win out to keep the #4 seed

a win over St Joes puts them a game in the win column below us

I don’t think we will have to go 4-0 given St. Joes and Duquesne’s remaining schedule (can include Davidson as well even though they’re two games back).

A win over St. Joes will be massive though. A win over them and Bona might be enough with tiebreakers to finish 4th.

4-0 and we might be able to finish 3rd depending on what Dayton does against GW and vcu.

I wonder if A10 is a 1 bid league now.

I think if SLU and vcu both make the finals they’re both in regardless of who wins. If it’s SLu and anyone else, SLU has to lose the final for the A10 to get multiple teams in.

Overall, the A10 has work to do, but I don’t think it’s going to be a perennial 1-bid league so long as Dayton, vcu, and SLU are still in the conference (those three teams leave and we are in some trouble).

Edit: adding here that historically, before we joined, Xavier and Temple received the vast majority of at-large bids in the A10, so not much has changed.

vcu has to win out and then make final. I don't think they are going to beat Dayton. Dayton looks like team to beat right now.... I think the Fordham vcu game has potential to be closer than people think as well. SLU is in baring total collapse. They could even lose to Mason. They have to beat Duquesne and definitely have to beat Loyola though. SLU isn't even on the bubble right now they are solidly in! They are 22 in the net and ahead of about 12-14 teams currently.

IMO...If St. Louis wins the tournament....Yes.

If they lose the tourney... they get in based off their ranking for most of the year and their resume/record.

It's interesting the latest ESPN bracketology shows where their heads and attention are to teams now. The lovefest with the SEC gives Missouri an In as they were on bubble watch. Them putting Auburn in at 6-9 in conference and 15-13 overall record is beyond absurd to me, no way they belong in.

Santa Clara has entered the chat and they seem to be stealing a bid as the West Coast Conference is looking at 3 bids now (St. Marys and Gonzaga).

New Mexico WAS cruising but they recently lost to Nevada and have hard games left against San Diego State, Utah State and Colorado State - if they lose 2 or 3 of those.... they are in big trouble.

Our 2nd best team, vcu, is 4-5 teams behind the In category. If they lose anymore games they risk falling deeper behind - they still have to play Dayton @ Dayton. They would probably need to make it to the A10 final to be in consideration.

Santa Clara lost to Loyola and SLU. If they get in ahead of any of our top A10 teams I’m calling foul. Their one good win so far is a home win against St. Mary’s.

vcu has some tough games left. They might drop one or two of them (hopefully one to us but I’m not counting on it).

Final: Dayton 68 - at GW 66
exciting finish. With the Flyers down 2, Bennett, a 90% ft shooter, makes the first, but misses the second, so GW still has a 1 pt lead.
~ 20 sec left: Dayton immediately fouls Castro who got the rebound.

I think this is where the tv indicates that GW is 365th in Kenpom "Luck"--metric which essentially indicates means they've lost a lot of close games.

Castro who is something like 2-9 from the line for the night, misses both. And on the rebound of the second shot, GW fouls L'Etang, who makes both to give Dayton a 1 pt lead.

GW takes a time out at half court with 13 sec left. But GW misses a contested 12 footer, Castro misses an off-balance, 5 footer off of the rebound. Ball gets batted around . Dayton gets fouled with .4 sec and makes the second to go up 2.

GW heaves a pass just past half-court but errant shot wouldn't have been before the buzzer anyway.
