"Kansas City will move on from head coach Marvin Menzies at the end of the season, the school announced Monday.

The Roos are just 4-14 this season, with only one win coming against a Division I opponent. Menzies will coach the team the rest of the season."

"Menzies was hired in 2022 to replace Billy Donlon, who guided the Roos to 19-12 season and a third-place finish in the Summit League.

Menzies improved the team from Year 1 to Year 2, finishing tied for second in the conference in 2023-24. But performances have cratered since then, going 13-20 overall and 4-12 in league play last season and struggling mightily in the first half of this season.

In three and a half years at the helm, Menzies is 44-71.

Menzies previously was the head coach at New Mexico State and UNLV, guiding the Aggies to five NCAA tournament appearances during his final seven seasons in charge. He also spent two seasons as an assistant under Rick Pitino at Louisville."

"Kansas State fired men's basketball coach Jerome Tang for cause, the school said Sunday night.

The last-place Wildcats have only one win in the Big 12, and Tang, in his fourth season, lashed out at his players following a blowout home loss to Cincinnati on Wednesday.

The basis for the for-cause firing, sources told ESPN, is language in Tang's contract that references any activity that brings 'public disrepute, embarrassment, ridicule' to Kansas State.

'This was a decision that was made in the best interest of our university and men's basketball program,' Kansas State athletic director Gene Taylor said in a statement. 'Recent public comments and conduct, in addition to the program's overall direction, have not aligned with K-State's standards for supporting student-athletes and representing the university. We wish Coach Tang and his family all the best moving forward.'

In 2023, Tang signed a contract extension through the 2029-30 season, and there is still $18.67 million remaining on that deal. Sources told ESPN that Tang plans to fight the for-cause firing.

'I am deeply disappointed with the university's decision and strongly disagree with the characterization of my termination,' he told ESPN in a statement. 'I have always acted with integrity and faithfully fulfilled my responsibilities as head coach.'

The Wildcats dropped to 1-11 in Big 12 play with a 78-64 loss at No. 3 Houston on Saturday. They played the game without player names on the back of their jerseys, three days after the rant by Tang following the Cincinnati loss went viral.

'These dudes do not deserve to wear this uniform,' Tang said then. 'There will be very few of them in it next year. I'm embarrassed for the university, I'm embarrassed for our fans, our student section. It is ridiculous ... I have no answer. No words.'

Tang led Kansas State to the Elite Eight in his first season, winning 26 games -- the program's most since Bruce Weber's first season in 2013. The Wildcats couldn't continue the momentum of Tang's first season, though, struggling in Big 12 play and missing the NCAA tournament in Year 2 and then finishing 16-17 last season.

Kansas State bottomed out this season, sitting at 10-15 overall and tied for last place in the Big 12. Some of the fans in the student section of Bramlage Coliseum wore bags over their heads during the Wildcats' loss to Cincinnati.

Before taking over at Kansas State in 2022, Tang was an assistant coach under Scott Drew at Baylor for 20 seasons.

Tang called coaching Kansas State 'one of the great honors of my life.'

'I am grateful to the players, staff, and fans who make this program so special,' he said in the statement. 'I remain proud of what we built together and confident that I have always acted in the best interests of the university and our student-athletes.'

Kansas State said it would name an interim coach soon and that a national search for a replacement has begun."

No chance that holds up as “for cause”.

Tang is right. F these spoiled a** brats! Just about the money. Play no defense and don't care about the school. NBA should let them in after high school and let true student athletes play college ball. Unless he Tang did something messed up, Shame on TCU for siding with a bunch of spoiled money hungry bitches.

Kansas State, not TCU.

Although that was bad form by Tang to call out his players in a post-game press conference. It may have been well-deserved criticism, but throwing the team under the bus in public makes it seem like he's washing his hands of responsibility. He and his staff were the ones who recruited these guys.

Quite a fall from grace after taking the Wildcats to the Elite Eight in his first year there, but it's been a downhill ride ever since.

IIRC, I think Kim English may have been on K-State's short list the year that Tang was hired by them.

K State Is just saying they will fire him with cause, in hopes of settling for a lower number. I bet they settle for 10-12 million.

I'm not sure of the number, but I agree with you--that's the strategy they are pursuing.

Seth Greenberg on ESPN stoutly defended what Tang said (although he typically takes the coach's side in these sorts of conflicts). On the other hand, Wilbon on Tony K's podcast, argued that a coach should never call out his team the way Tang did.

"Mark Turgeon will take the reins next season, bringing over 20 years of head coaching experience as 'one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history,' per UMKC.

Turgeon, a Kansas native, grew up in Topeka and played for the University of Kansas, where he was later an assistant coach.

He also spent seven years in Wichita as the head coach of the Shockers.

Turgeon said he feels honored to return home and be 'trusted to build a winning tradition with Kansas City men's basketball.'”

"Outside of Kansas, Turgeon’s coaching resume includes head coaching jobs at Maryland, Texas A&M and Jacksonville State. He was also an assistant coach at Oregon and with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Turgeon is 476-275 across 24 seasons as a head coach, which UMKC reports ranks him in the top 30 for career wins among active Division 1 head coaches."

It’s hard to know whether Siddle is truly that good or just a beneficiary of having the best job in the conference. It’s tough to make that argument given that Keatts went to the Final Four, but he had a lackluster career after leaving UNCW.

"Joe Scott is out as Air Force's head coach, the school announced on Friday.

Scott had been suspended indefinitely last month, pending an investigation into the treatment of cadet-athletes. At the time, Scott said he would fully cooperate with the inquiry."

"Scott's second go-round with the Academy began in 2020, when he took over for Dave Pilipovich. The Falcons failed to finish better than 10th place in the Mountain West in any of his six seasons at the helm, including last-place finishes in each of the past two seasons. They were 3-14 (0-6 MWC) when Scott was suspended and haven't won a game since.

In five-plus seasons, Scott went 15-78 in league play.

It was not nearly as successful as his first term with the school from 1999 to 2004, when he guided Air Force to the 2004 NCAA tournament, winning 22 games and the Mountain West regular-season title.

Princeton hired Scott away from Air Force in 2004, and Scott spent three seasons as the head coach of the Tigers before going to Denver for nine seasons. He won 22 games in back-to-back seasons in 2012 and 2013, winning the WAC regular-season title in 2013."
