Seems like a waste of money and if they don’t win a national title next year hopefully everyone calms the “F” down. These are developing players, not in their prime professionals.

Shouldn’t we aim higher? Community college players?George Mason should team up with NOVA and treat it like a farm system. Let local kids play a year or two at NOVA, get better, then transfer to Mason ready to contribute. It’s a win-win—Mason gets developed players, and NOVA kids get a clear path to D1 hoops without leaving the area.
I get the skepticism—but this isn’t about settling. It’s about adapting.Shouldn’t we aim higher? Community college players?
Community college players are below D2 and D3 talent wise. You realize that right?I get the skepticism—but this isn’t about settling. It’s about adapting.
Look around—coaches aren’t investing in high school players the way they used to. You pour in time, coaching, resources, and by the time they’re actually good, they’re getting poached by a bigger program. It’s a broken model for schools like Mason.
That’s why a partnership with NOVA makes sense. You let local kids develop close to home, get real game reps, and then when they transfer, it’s to Mason—not away from it. You’re not guessing what kind of player you’re getting—they’ve already been coached to fit the system. They walk in ready to contribute, not learn on the fly.
This isn’t about lowering expectations. It’s about building continuity, culture, and a sustainable path to success. The best programs develop their own pipeline.
Also let’s not forget Skinn was a Juco player.

I’m not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with your take—and I’ll admit my idea isn’t perfect. I’m just throwing out some outside-the-box thoughts because it’s the offseason and, honestly, I’m bored.Community college players are below D2 and D3 talent wise. You realize that right?
I watched this thread and I causes me to have a question...I’m not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with your take—and I’ll admit my idea isn’t perfect. I’m just throwing out some outside-the-box thoughts because it’s the offseason and, honestly, I’m bored.
That said, the core of my point still stands: college basketball is evolving, and it’s becoming harder for high school players to land scholarships.
There are going to be a ton of hidden gems who slip through the cracks and end up at the D3 or JUCO level.
I’m not suggesting we load up the roster with NOVA players. I’m suggesting we build relationships with certain JUCO programs so our staff knows that players coming from those teams are well-coached, disciplined, and already developed to fit Mason’s defensive-first style.
But what percentage of our budget would you attribute to essentially our G League team? OR would you try to pull it off for free?I’m not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with your take—and I’ll admit my idea isn’t perfect. Apparently, not any more!I watched this thread and I causes me to have a question...
Does NOVA (and not the one in Philly) have a basketball team? Or are you suggesting the creation of one?
