congrats to Brad on chasing his NFL connections, but he didn't exactly do that great of a job at Mason.

I hope I don't get scolded for saying this, however all of Mason sports are non-competitive on the national level, and we have floundered in attendance since he came in.

He did the right thing to pursue other positions. Hope that Mason recruits and brings in the right person for the job.

Why couldn't this have happened over the summer. Not much breathing room now for finding the RIGHT GUY rather than just a guy to fill the role before basketball gets underway.
Guarantee they’re not gonna rush this hire. Dr. Washington gets a chance to bring in his own person — and somebody who will work well with Kim — so no way it’s getting done by November.

He did a decent job of raising money and getting Mason into revenue streams (arena naming, etc.) that we never had before, but yeah his record on hiring coaches is … not good.

Like with anyone I think he did well in some areas, and some areas not so much.

That said, I’m excited for Dr Washington to hire his own guy and have full confidence that’s he’s going to get us a stud.

I'm going to caveat this in a big way by saying I'm only familiar w/his two hires in basketball, Paulsen and English. Paulsen didn't work out and English is TBD, but given what was known at the time and the inability of anyone to predict the future, I'd say both of those were solid hires at the time they were made.

Some jumped off the bandwagon quicker than others, but at the time the hire was made, I don't recall anyone being overly critical of the decision. In fact, I recall a general sense of optimism and support for the hire at the time it was made.

The Big Balls Brad era is over. As others have mentioned, Mason athletics has not flourished under his tenure. Although Brad talked a big game the wins and greater success didn't happen.

One particularly large pothole in the road was a damaging (but very quiet) scandal regarding NCAA regulations violations that was at least a contributing factor to the loss of both men's and women's basketball coaches. Sanctions were placed upon both volleyball teams. Additionally, a general purge occurred within the athletic department, followed by one-year probation that ends this week. Bad optics for sure, especially for BBB.

Sorry, Brad, but your image and goals didn't match your production in terms of Mason teams' success. Perhaps that's from what you inherited, how do I know for sure. But the record speaks. You did a good job with PR and raising cash. Thanks for your effort.

Mason will endure. Good luck in your next chapter. On to bigger and better things for everyone.

Yeah I was looking more globally across the entire department … can definitely see the rationale for hiring DP to fix/stabilize everything that got so absolutely off the rails under Hewitt, even though the W-L record ultimately was not good enough.

Respectfully, this sentence is nonsense. The financial aid office misappropriating a couple hundred bucks for a handful of players had absolutely nothing to do with Dave's ouster, or the fact that the women's coach went 0-18 in her final year. It was quiet because it was not material to anything and no one cares.

Umass’ AD should resign immediately For the exact thing happening. I can’t believe he actually believed that enough to type it. DP was fired because he’s not a good basketball coach not because of 18 dollars for an extra chik fila sandwich for 7 basketball players

150%
How long will the new AD keep Darrell Green around?
If DG and DH are smart, they are packing their stuff as we speak. I suspect they’ll quietly depart.

Hopefully the press release shows the long list of accomplishments from both of them. I’m very interested to read. /s

What you said about Dr. W. (See my comment in the speculation thread. If you want to.)

I have to say I was a fan of the Paulsen hire...until the second year of the two-year season.

There are several bbb scandals past and current that never saw the light of day outside of the university. Maybe they will now be released. He flew the coop along with many in his cabinet. Contract not renewed and walls closed in. NFL took him in. Fitting landing place and end end to the bbb saga.

This is what I have long assumed was the case. I assume it was contract time, and the University politely declined and allowed him the opportunity to find employment on his own, which it appears he did.

Within 7-8 years at the helm , nearly every head coaching position was filled once or in some cases, twice. That's not a good sign. Like I said, I wish him well. Hopefully he takes Darrell Green with him.

Would explain the amount of turnover in the staff over the last few months as well...
