Major props to XJ and Polite for being aggressive and attacking the basket. That's what we need from our point guards. I will gladly take a combined 15 points, 7 assists and 0 turnovers 7 days a week.

And even greater props to one of the most energetic crowds we've had in a long time. Was it a big crowd? No. But the energy from the students and the fans was electric and definitely made a difference. Let's bring that again Wednesday against the Bonnies.
Wait, what happened tonight versus St. Joe's? They seem to have let the rabble in. GREAT ATMOSPHERE! What did they do, hand out amphetamines to the first 1,000 fans? Completely opposite game experience than Saturday. See what we can accomplish when we all bitch together on MasonHoops?

Today was the first day of the spring semester. A little fun after spending the day hearing about syllabus front matter....

Was at the gameand agree. I'm guessing there were maybe 2K in attendance, but it sounded like 2X that, especially in the 2nd half.

Re: attendance we HAVE to do better. I get that tonight was a re-scheduled game on a Monday night but the students showed up, while the alumni didn't (it's usually been the other way around going back 10-20 years). If you are worried about Covid get yourself boosted and wear an N95. Even at 50% capacity, there is very little risk of exposure.

Now, if you're going to take your mask off and chug a beer for the benefit of the camera and jumbotron, the risk profile does slightly go up, but I'm kinda in favor of that particular behavior.

Does fire up the crowd.

Mason has to cool st joes off from deep, 7/14 is just not good
Erik Reynolds is really good. I wish we got him just like I wished we got Jeff Dowtin a while back
Ronnie Polite had a nice half, 7 points, took a charge and even hit a 3.
Josh Oduro. Don’t know what English taught him over 6 months but he completely changed his ways. Tough in the post and smart on both ends.
Watching warmups, I saw a guy with nice form hit three straights 3s and wondered who it was -- figured it was a walk-on (he was wearing a hoodie), only to discover it was Polite. IHe played well (aside from a couple ill-advised threes) and helped put us over the top.

He does seem to have a knack for getting to the basket, with some sort of loping, souped-up, euro-step. It's hard to explain (and understand) how he does it, but it seems to be his "thing" and it seems to be "working."

He certainly isn't blowing by defenders.

One last post from me about tonight's game.

Oduro = stud.

When we had trouble in-bounding the ball at the end of the game, KE took Johnson aside during the time out and "showed" him how you shake you defender free with a bit of mis-direction. Damn if KE isn't quick, or quicker, than XJ!!

Pretty sure English would average 23-24 per game if he suited up.

Paulsen saw something in Oduro when he recruited him out of Paul VI.

I liked the signing coming out but I want to be crystal clear how wrong I was about him since it is so statistically improbable that I am ever wrong about anything.

I think I told gmu jim a couple years ago that if he ever averaged 15 a game I would tongue his balls or give him $100,000 or whatever.

I was wrong. It feels good to say: For once, I was wrong.

Maybe you and him can rub nipples together? I know Jim always talked about that under Paulsen lol
