Love the vision but need results. I too like the words. Let's hope they are matched by deeds. His first test is hiring the new BBall coach. Howland would give us instant stature and relevance in the A10 and beyond. Lets hope he delivers Howland or someone similar.

Agreed. However this is still a significant sea change in viewpoint and leadership that it is still a good sign.

Yes, that letter is a refreshing change. Really says there is a different vibe coming from the AD. This is the kind of sign I have been looking for. I don't think I could have expected much more in something like that.

Was that sent to the basketball team, the the whole athletic department, the school, other?

Dude's got a vision and plan in place. Great letter, and a good way to re-energize the fanbase.

Go on with your bad self, B!

Right now I am just happy for anything.... Like a battered wife that just wants one day of peace and no backhand slaps.

I'm about 99 percent sure you're wrong, Pablo.

My guy said it would be a "significant" hire. I don't think Darrin Horn qualifies, but as I've stated a million times, I could be mistaken.

Let's not forget that Hewitt was a "significant" hire who "let a team (full of NBA players) to the NCAA finals."

I don't want a "significant" name unless it's a coach with a significant track record of taking mid-tier players and making winning teams out of them. We don't need another "big name" from a big-name program who did "ok" with his team full of blue-chip recruits.

I'd rather see an up-and-coming assistant who has the fire to win, not some has-been who will see GMU as a step down from his "big program." We just did that....

We can only hope lots of work goes into finding our next coach. Seems like Brad is going at alone.
Not sure he is doing it alone. I am sure he has a staff. Ha ongoing said that....as of now I am fully comfortable letting him be the point man on this effort.

I don't think that is a fair analysis of the last (Hewitt) situation. By all accounts Hewitt was going to take a few years off, maybe do some broadcasting and take an extended vacation. I think TOC talked him out of his plan by throwing some significant dollars his way and likely helping Hewitt think the CAA was a cakewalk compared to the ACC and he would be inheriting a loaded team. Years one and two panned out under the scenario TOC sold Hewitt. It was when he had to coach his own players (no L holdovers) that his faults began to show. Moving to the A10 only exacerbated the problem.

I would rather have the school spend the bucks to get a coach who has demonstrated experience. An unproven assistant does't make the grade (at least for me). The money doesn't have to be upfront; incentivize the guy such that he makes a decent living if he does ok and knocks it out of the park (income) if he succeeds. This way it is heavily geared to performance.

You have no idea if an assistant coach will be a good head coach until given a chance. See Archie Miller/Shaka/Izzo/Roy Williams, et al...I don't care one iota about a name. I want someone who wins...period.

Its like lots of folks have pointed out here before. It is ALL a crap shoot. Just need to make an informed decision and hope for the best though hiring an assistant is hiring someone who has no wins.
