Coastal Carolina 2-1 to open the regular season! Team really struggled last year, so this is a great sign.

Dirks scored the GW after scoring 4 goals in the 3 pre-season games.

Dirks has been a good player for Mason. The other goalscorer, sophomore forward Tunde Akinlosotu, is a player to watch this year.

They got themselves a nice schedule this year:

On Monday, head coach Greg Andrulis announced the 2017 schedule, which includes games against NCAA Tournament participants Coastal Carolina (home), Albany (away), East Tennessee State (home) and Fordham (home).

"The 2017 schedule is quite exciting. We have some terrific teams coming to Mason this fall," Andrulis said. "Our non-conference slate includes numerous teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament and several teams who played in their conference championship games. Those matches will be great preparation for the A-10. Starting the regular season against a perennial NCAA Tournament participant and Top 20 program Coastal Carolina will be a great way to start the 2017 campaign, at home in front of a big Mason Nation crowd. We are really looking forward to it."

Fordham looks like the team to beat in A10 play. Not much faith in MASON.

''The Rams seek to claim their third A-10 title in four years heading into the 2017 season. They finished their 2016 campaign with 5-2-1 conference record and 10-7-4 overall. They are led by brothers and preseason All-Conference sections Janos and Jannik Loebe. Janos was the 2016 Offensive Player of the Year, leading the league in shots, and was tied for the lead in points in the 2016 season. Also joining the Loebes on the preseason All-Conference team is the 2016 Most Outstanding Performer from the championship, goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu and defensive backs, Matthew Lewis and Joergen Oland. The Rams have made nine overall championship appearances and looks to defend their title.''

2-0 for GMU men's soccer after they knocked off American 2-0. Dirks with two assists, both in the first half.

Correction on the score: it was a 3-0 win against American. Both our first opponents were NCAA qualifiers last year.

3-1-1 after beating Binghampton 4-3 yesterday. Not sure what to make of the team, yet, but at least they can score...defense might be a bit suspect.

After only 2 wins last year, starting 3-1-1 with win over a ranked opponent and only loss to a traditionally tough team, I'll take it. Dirks is killing it this season, but we are relying on a freshmen goal keeper.

Caught the 2nd half of the Binghamton game on Friday - good atmosphere and student turnout (by Mason soccer standards), exciting OT win and they even have a food truck - I'll come hungry next game.
