1) one less TV TO per half
2) EOQ gives a rest period which changes the substitution pattern
3) EOQ potentially stops a team on a run
4) loss of one possession per half or changes one possession to a despairate shot attempt?
5) EOQ rest extends total game time
6) Can affect Inbound plays at the start of Q2 and Q4
7) Allows a press to set up at the start of Q2 and Q4

What is the cumulative effect on the TV contracts and payouts?
Generates more concession revenue?

Half Based records are final
New records for Quarters

I kinda agree. But at this point isn’t college men’s basketball the only level that still has halves instead of quarters?
And as the college game becomes more like the NBA, I will lose most of my interest. The NBA is practically unbearable (I wrote unwatchable but autocorrect changed it to unbearable; I think autocorrect must also watch the NBA). In any case, it will ruin it for people like me.

In the original post, jessej gave 7 reasons for the possible change. The only reason I like of the 7 is the first, less timeouts. All the others are horrible reasons to make the change.

It isn’t just NBA, HS boys basketball uses quarters, FIBA uses a quarter system. I’m not sure about AAU, but I’d be surprised if they used two halves.

I think we are just used to the two halves system and so don’t want it to change, which is understandable.

Sure, you're probably right that I just don't want to change. Par for the age ... er, course.

In any case, two halves are not that hard to see. Football, er futbol, fussball, soccer, etc., use a two half system. Rugby, too.

I'm just afraid the NCAA will continue turn the sport we love into the NBA. I'm a huge sports fan. Football, baseball, hockey (I've watched significant parts of almost every playoff game), college basketball, cricket, the Premier League, F1, et al, and I haven't watched a minute of the NBA playoffs. I've seen a couple of clips during general sports coverage on ESPN, but otherwise the sport they put on the court in NBA arenas isn't much fun to watch. And if college basketball goes the way of the NBA, my viewing and attendance at games will be much more difficult for me. I want to enjoy what I spend my money on.

I have to approach this conversation from the perspective of someone who uses college basketball as a crutch to get through the sh*tty winter months. Consequently, a move to a quarter system would probably encourage me to make more runs to the gold room for beer, further numbing me to the cold and darkness outside, and bumping up my BAC to dangerous levels. Maybe we should keep the guardrails of a two-half system in place?

Perhaps just leave the Gold Room open for the entire game? A few large screen TV's and we're set.

The trade-off between college and NBA is that in college you play two 20 minute halves, and in NBA the game is longer (48 mins).

Unless they’re planning on upping the total game time to match I see absolutely no reason for a switch at this point.

I would also not be a fan of quarters as opposed to halves because, I do not like even in the leagues that play four quarters currently, that the team fouls reset every quarter. Never liked it, never will.

i had forgotten about the fouls effect in my initial analysis. Since fouls are reset each quarter there is potentially less playing time sent in the bonus and double bonus, which potentially leads to
1) less free throw shooting
2) less scoring

My impression from watching the women's games is that because of fewer fts, their games also are shorter.
