I am a Gold Room member just so I DIDN'T have to hang out in the social spaces, otherwise known as the concourse of the PatDome. (Ironic, I know, the GR was on the concourse, but it was closed off to the riff raff.) And the picture used to show what the new Patriot Lounge looks like is not exactly inspiring to me, a donor of somewhere around 30 years (of both money to the Patriot Club AND to two kids getting a total of 5 degrees at Mason), as a place I want to hang out. No windows, closed in, and uncomfortable. The 'elevated' food experience ... yeah, didn't we hear those words last year about the Gold Room food? It was OK, but I would hardly term it elevated. And I don't require much. I was happy with chili dogs from Vienna Inn and pizza from Ledo's. But ok, my tastes are not so developed as the average donor, and adult for that matter, so I was willing to pay the freight and maybe eat about half the time (1/6th really since I have/had 3 GR passes but mostly only used one pass as I went to the games by myself and have 3 tickets) because didn't want/like what was served. My choice. But to move our experience into the basement, charge more, and provide less is not exactly where I hoped to be putting my money at this point.
As it is, I drive about 4 hours each way to attend games (so in addition to the tickets and Gold Room, add a tank of gas to my attendance costs), and what little I got for my money in the Gold Room I was OK with because it helped the team and Patriot Club, but with these changes, I'm not so sure. I can have better food and equivalent drink for much less at O'Georges or wherever I pregame, and have money left over, instead of being nickel and dimed ever step of the way telling me the 'experience' is better when it won't be. To invoke an old adage, "Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining."
Sorry for the rant, but the more I think about it, the more the whole situation bothers me. I DON'T LIKE CHANGE!
