Davidson is IN. Richmond is OUT. Dayton is IN. vcu is GAY.

EDIT: can I use GAY in this context? The rules are getting so complicated. If I were on the SG, would I be kicked out?

Happy people or homosexuals?
I feel like both groups would be offended, especially the former, considering that vcu's a miserable place that happens to have a basketball team. Calling vcu happy would be an affront to the happy community.

Let me get this straight:

vcu has last last 6 of 10 without their best player who is gone for the year, currently sits tied for 4th in the A-10, got manhandled by Davidson last night who "still has work to do" and they are a lock?

I understand the body of work angle....but their current play is not passing the eyeball test as being a "LOCK." Bubble, needs to win some A-10 tourney games, yes.

Anyone....?

I don't disagree with your points, but their current rpi is at 17. They had the third best rpi nationally in their out of conference schedule and had the best Div 1 out-of-conference strength of schedule.

That piece on rpi in the Post this week and NCAA bids indicated that historically (or at least since they've gone to a 68 team field) EVERY team with an rpi in the top 30 has gotten a bid. I would think that even if vcu loses the next 2 games, they won't drop that far. Even if they fall between 31-50, 85% of those teams make the tournament.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...015-ncaa-tournament-bubble-really-looks-like/

Here's a list of rpis for each team in the A10:
http://www.rpiforecast.com/confs/A10.html

So while they may lose in the first round if they do get in, they are much more likely to be included than not. However the selection committee might give them a poorer seed based on how they've played since Weber's injury.

I didn't realize their RPI was so high at 17...so now I can understand why the talk.

But....they should still be a 12 play in game.....

Great game on ESPN2 between Wooford and Furman. Should not be this close.

Update: Wooford holds on to win by 3 and prevents 11-win Furman from sneaking into the tournament. Whew!

I can't believe W&M couldn't get a bid to the NCAAT once with a player as talented as Thornton. Especially, considering vcu and ODU have been gone for most of his time in the CAA.

Had a really good chance last year, down 1 with time running out, Thornton took a make-able jumper from 15-20 but Rusthoven (sp?), who was a real force all year, was WIDE OPEN underneath. Shot didn't go in. It's a real problem being in a 1 bid league, as we all know (or knew).

They totally choked the game away last year vs. DEL.

WM must be cursed

I watched that game in person tonight, hoping to see history. I think there were 4,000 or so in the arena, and that had to be the smallest court storming in the history of division I.

William and Mary was simply out of gas from yesterday. If you look at the box score from Sunday, W & M didn't get much production from the bench. Northeastern was shooting over 65% most of the 1st half, and kept it up by hitting 3's.

For those who took the trek to Baltimore for the CAA tournament, how did it compare to Richmond (minus the much smaller crowds obviously)? I had advocated Baltimore when we were in the CAA as a good alternative to Richmond and I'm curious what you guys thought (Five Two, I know you also said you went).

Screw NE. I still remember them coming back on us in the CAA Tourney, that was a Nightmare. Their fans somehow got hundreds of red towels in the hands of all those soldiers sitting in at our game against them that year. They got the soldiers involved in the game against us and that never helps our players mentality when Virginia based soldiers are rooting for a liberal school where they may of had 20 fans in attendance. The vcu doucebag band director was there with his vcu cronies and they were getting random fans to cheer for NE during our game. So F NE and vcu!

Bill & Mary have always seemed like that dorky, nice kid at school who just can't get a date with any chick. Nice guys really do finish last. Sucks for them since Thornton is gone next year and they will likely be rebuilding.

I had not been to that arena in over 10 years, and didn't walk around either, but there is plenty to do within a few blocks of the arena, something Richmond doesn't have. The scoreboard is as bad as Richmond's is though. In the first half, when William and Mary thought they had a tip in at the buzzer, it was hard to tell on the replays because of how bad the scoreboard is what really happened. I was in section 228 (which is an end) and the seat was $20, although there were $50 seats available in the 100's section of the arena. Parking one block away at a hotel was $10, which is a steal for Baltimore.

From a fan perspective, William and Mary fans were all over the place, including some in the section I was in.
