While I think he should be gone today or soon......

I have heard from enough people, less associated with this board and more associated with Mason...hinting that's its not as cut and dry as we believe.

Not going to lie...scares the sh*t out of me.....

And for those that keep touting his 2 20 win seasons in 4.....remember 1 was a team already in place and the 2nd ended up being that many because we payed to play in CBI games to save face.

So what are some of the arguments you are hearing for keeping him? Is it strictly financial?

Forget about G Mas and this mismatch at GWU. Marymount (VA) hosts Christopher Newport at 4:00 PM tomorrow. Both squads are 6-1 in the CAC -- tied at the top. Will be a good one. Quality basketball for a great price ($5) and kids under 12 are free. Tell 'em the PoorManProfit sent you.

Marymount (VA) 62 Christopher Newport 60 Final

An extremely competivive game before a packed house in Arlington. CNU had a look from 3 in the final seconds that missed. Good stuff.

If Hewitt doesn't get fired either during or immediately after this season, it will be the loudest possible statement that the university really doesn't give a sh!t about its athletic department.

At this point, you can't make an argument to keep him with a straight face.

Never mind the record, it's not even like Edwards is going to be able to look at video from the past 4 seasons and imagine that we're making steady progress. We're heading in the wrong direction at 250 mph and I have yet to see any evidence that Hewitt is the man to turn that around.

Opting to retain/extend him would be condoning sheer ineptitude ... and I don't think in a million years Cabrera and Edwards would ever do that.

WE are the PASSIONATE followers.

I have been cautioned, that in the whole picture of the University, letting Hewitt go another year, even as a lame duck etc, does not make others lose sleep at night like it does for most of us here. While we see it as a nightmare....there is a more general view that his contract could run its course and the rebuild could just re-start after that, even if its not the perfect world of recruiting windows, etc. No different than a lackluster professor doesn't get fired in the middle of the year unless there is some overwhelming cause for it.

On the same note, yes Cabrera, and more importantly Edwards believe in excellence and innovation and want to be the best. And will ultimately make the moves that best reflect Mason's best interest.

The question is do their decisions match the rabid fan's timeline.....??

So, to you, as has been said to me....have patience and see what happens.....

KA, if they truly believe in excellence, that is not compatible with letting Hewitt go into the final season of his deal as a lame duck. That would be the polar opposite of pursuing excellence.

There is already more than enough evidence of what happens to teams with lame duck coaches, and it would only make the process of digging out from the rubble of Hewittpocalypse even more arduous.

Again, I would feel differently if there was even a ray of hope that Hewitt had things pointed in the right direction. He clearly does not. We will literally be lucky to win another game this season.

He has to go ... the sooner, the better.

'Im with you. But here's the deal: Hewitt may not be on Cabrera's Top 10 List of "sh*t that needs to get done right now to be excellent."

Quote: "Retaining Hewitt this year would not be an endorsement, just a practical decision for the time being."

If you ask me...there's a financial implication being played out.

If Cabrera has 10 things on his "to-do" list more critical than firing Hewitt, I will bend over and kiss my own bare a** at midcourt prior to the start of our 2015-16 home opener.

Not that any fans will be there to witness it, of course.

If I was Cabrera and Hewitt was in my Top 10, I would move him to #11 just for the sake of seeing such a thing....

Because GMU can't get its poop in a group to get a football program I root for UVA.

I hope that Carrera and Edwardsare paying attention to what's happening at UVA when they made a similar decision to retain mike London for another year. they are losing fans, & I don't just mean temporarily. They are losing a generation of fans as fathers are no longer raising their sons UVA fans. UVA at least has an elite basketball program to fall back on. Mason has no such luxury. Retaining Hewitt to save a few hundred thousand dollars would be a financial mistake in the long run, as it will take a LONG time to regain the goodwill lost.

This alone may be the catalyst to fire Hewitt...........or seen as a terroristic threat.

We had no fans prior to Larranaga and specifically 2006.....so as some pointed out, we're just really getting back to "normal."

I pointed this out before the season started and was shot as the messenger, but I will point it out again...

If Mason is still getting the bulk of the season ticket holders, and I mean the ones that sit in the lower quarter of the bowl, there isn't a lot of pressure on them to make a change. It looks like to me that most of the people that sit in the expensive seats are still paying for their seats. They may not be there every game, but they are there for some of the games, so I assume they have made their donations and bought their season tickets.

So, those of us that keep giving Mason our money are not helping the "get rid of Hewitt" cause. I have decided I will not tolerate another year of Hewitt and will not renew if he is brought back. I suggest those that want to see Hewitt gone to do the same and let Mason know that is the case. If enough people do it, maybe the decision to fire Hewitt will be a an easy financial decision.

Excellent point. And let me add....waiting for the summer to not renew is not going to help. You need to physically write your letters and/or let the AD know, or at a minimum find the appropriate people at home gomes and TELL them you are done with this mess NOW.

Well its kind of ironic that in the same post you begin by putting up TOC as an example of how to handle a bad coach, and yet end the same post telling TOC to "eat sh*t."

well its annoying that you have nit pick everything...but i'll explain b/c im so disgusted with our program.......Merten gave the okay to fire westhead as Cab will for hewitt....back then TOC wanted to hire Jim Baron, his boy from Rhode Island and St Bonnies, who had a crappy overall record but a tough straight and narrow type. Merten and the Bov told TOC no, we are going with this Larranaga guy. Digger Phelps spoke with Merten at length about why he should take L. So that's why I said 'they' and purposely did not mention TOC. Merten didn't like TOC b/c he wasn't that bright. L and Merten got along b/c they were, amogst other things, pretty bright. And Sally loved to stare at Liz.
