Just tooling around on Fairfield's message boards (a local kid goes there) and I saw it mentioned that the GMU/Iona game (12/20) is on nbcsports.

I saw something about there being an open to the public intra squad scrimmage possibly, haven't heard anything about a closed scrimmage

Since we have one exhibition scheduled, that most likely means we're also doing one closed scrimmage.

Maybe at some point, somebody associated with the program will leak out just a few details about who we're playing and where.

I think there may be an open scrimmage to everyone after the "Coaches Clinic" on October 25th. Its on the schedule, but I dont know if its just for the attendees or what.

So the A10 decided (or allowed) us to have two Saturday doubleheaders during the conference season- Jan 24 the men play Davidson and the women play URI and on Feb 14 for Homecoming the men play Richmond and the women play vcu.

Wouldn't it be in the best interest of the conference and schools to have both the men and women play the same school on Jan 24th and Feb 14th? Or is that too easy?????

Why would that be in their best interest as a conference?

I don't think that was done in the CAA days either (in terms of the same school playing).

While I don't recall any doubleheaders vs. the same CAA school, I remember both Mason basketball teams playing on the same weekend at UNCW (Saturday for the men & Sunday for the women). However, I don't know whether both teams traveled together (to reduce travel costs) as Five Two is suggesting in scheduling doubleheaders vs. the same A10 school.

Regardless, he's presenting an excellent idea that the A10 should consider. I also believe that the A10 should implement an 18-game conference schedule for the women as it has for the men (the women are still playing a 16-game conference schedule).

this would streamline travel costs for the schools and the conference staff having to attend games. If we are hosting URI for a doubleheader, their teams, coaches and administrators could travel together.

I'm not naïve enough to think this would increase ticket sales, though.

In the grand scheme of things and with their recent TV contract it's pennies you are talking about.

Most of the game times have now been posted:

Looks like we are playing a non-Div I school on Dec 17th at the RAC. hmmmm
But according to the CATAWBA schedule, they list it as an exhibition: http://www.gocatawbaindians.com/schedule.asp?sportID=2

The in-conference doubleheaders with the women don't make sense. The men play Davidson at 7, but the women play at 2 on 1/24. WTF? Why not have the women tip at 3:30?
The Homecoming double header is a bit more logical with the women starting at noon and the men at 4. I would have pushed the women's game to 12:30.

Why are we playing an exhibition against a non-Div I in the middle of the season? Looks like they play Radford and UNCW as well.

The staff probably couldnt fill the last game but figured this could at least be a game to work on things in a "real" game. At least they decided to have the game in the RAC again.
