GK and ByGeorge delivered! Nice tailgate! Got lot's of nice tail there (that should spur a PiKapp visit next time, fer shur!). Thanks for the grilled chorizo and the good conversation. We need more of you sad-sacks to haul your sad-little-sacks outside for a beer (or seven), a hot dog or two (a special treat on JMU-night!), and other pre-game festivities. GOOD TIMES FOR ALL!! Let's do it again December 7 — Cheers!

So I get that the game starts at 7 and people need to get into the game, but I tried to show up early, 6:20ish, and everything was broken down. Gotta say it was pretty disappointing.

there’s no way casual passers by would even know it happened/was going on. most folks aren’t/can’t show up 3 hours before the game.

hope there was good turnout and it catches on with the students.

DUDE! Check the Tailgating instructions: Taligate ends at 6:30. If you do your homework then you'll have more realistic expectations—wanker. :disappointment:

I was out there, drinking alone at 6:30 haha. Must have missed me. It’s Saturday, we got out there at 2:30, but would also say I was kinda disappointed in the turnout. Thanks for trying to stop by though, sorry we missed you.

Hmmmmm... Taligate was over at 6:30 and didn't look like a Taligate ever took place?!?!? Sounds to me like everyone involved did an excellent job. It shows that our fans are responsible enough to tailgate, well... responsibly... yes? I think "wanker" is the correct term.

Random thought watching last night: Mason should try one general admission, open seating game (first come, first served). Court-side included. That way the most passionate fans are closest to the action. If they stand and cheer in front, everyone will have to stand behind them. See if it changes the atmosphere. Get the students out of the rafters and stop having big sections of season-ticket holder no shows / empty reserved seats.

If successful, do it once a year or something. Make it a fun tradition.

Or even better yet, have a no sitting night. Dual purpose it as the stand up to cancer game or something like that.

Fire the suggestion at someone like a Zach Bolno or Greg Kennedy. I'm not sure it would work because you have a lot of donors who pay a lot of money for many years who have close seats (Deans, University Officials included). But its not a terrible idea. They are always looking at creative incentives to get people to attend.

It probably runs afoul of some sort of fire code, but I was thinking last night they ought to just take the seats out of the student section. Put a rail in front of every row to lean on and have a standing section like European soccer does. Our students currently suck a** and will not stand unless literally forced to. What happened to the students leading the section? It's a disgrace that like three rows of 115 are way louder/more fun than the entirety of the student section.

I liked what they did at the green-gold scrimmage and had the area behind our basket as "hospitality" tables. Try it for the J-State game since its a Tuesday and see what happens. Can it be any worse than having a few hundred students show up to sit in their seats with their heads in their phones?

Soccer culture also has supporters groups who dictate the chants, songs, and general atmosphere inside a stadium (to the point that they have captains who voluntarily turn their backs to the game in order to orchestrate the cheering sections) and the students seem to completely lack a dedicated group who is going to stand all game and go crazy (just speculating here since I don’t attend games), but where/what is this so-called G-Force doing?

I’m not going to call out the students as a whole.

First part will never happen. Absolutely love the no sitting part but it’s tough when 75% of our fans are geriatric.

I realize that places like Duke don’t have the issue of getting fans involved. I was wondering if the rise in technology ties in to the modern student/fans sucking.
When they show pictures of our student section half of the section either is looking at their phone or at least has it in their hands.

When I’m at home I used to watch TV now I find myself looking at my phone while the TV is on. Kind of seems like that’s what our fans do with the game.

They need to consolidate season ticket holders to one side of the stadium. It’s embarrssing to see so many open seats.

I think it was the final home game of 2013 vs. Towson when they made it General Admission for all fans. Yet, when some friends and I got there they demanded to "check our student IDs" and forced us to sit in the student section because "these seats are for season ticket holders". I think a grand total of 800 people showed up for that game.

Like the idea though if done and enforced correctly.

This is a GREAT idea. If you don't fire this suggestion off to the AD, I will gladly take lead. One thing that's really bothered me while watching games this year is every single student sitting down for the entire game. Make that bottom section standing only, and if someone wants to sit, they can head up to the rafters.

During the weeknight games against s*** opponents, and even in the Hewitt years, we ALWAYS stood up and cheered when I was in school.

"Retire" Mason's leader of the Basketball Gestapo, Reich Field Marsball Jay Marsh. Then maybe the student fans can have fun again! That man is an incredible "General Downer." If he had his way, the students would sit on high, straight-backed wooden chairs with no finish resulting in splinters on one's butt if one even lifts a cheek to fart! :buckteeth:
