What in the inflation
It is crazy town out there. But not surprising — look at the billions of dollars American parents throw away every year chasing athletic scholarships for kids who in many cases will never be talented enough to play above D-3 if they’re lucky. We are an irrational people when it comes to sports.

Deferred gratification more often than not outweighs immediate gratification. The overwhelming majority of those in the portal are going to learn that the hard way. Far more will be broke at 30 with no real options for their future, only a handful truly make the big money. Sad.

And a million dollars ain't what it used to be.

There used to be no delayed nor immediate gratification before they got paid. They would just graduate (if that) and enter the real world with no money (like most college students). At least they’re making money for a handful of years now. Good for them.

For most of us, going to college delayed economic gratification until getting post-graduation job. Certainly for many, immediate gratification occurs while attending college if you are enjoying the educational, cultural, and social experiences you are exposed to.

It would be extremely financially irresponsible for them to not capitalize on these few money-earning years that they have. It’s not really about immediate vs delayed gratification, is it? If they’re lucky enough to earn a 2-way contract with the NBA, they will make about $500,000. If a guy like Mincy can get $2 mil, free tuition, free room and board, then he should take it.
