Let's try to get inside Kory Mincy's head a little, if we can.
1.) Kory finished his first season at Presbyterian being named to the Big South all freshman team. Mincy could have easily left for a payout after his freshman season, but remained at Presbyterian to play his sophomore season, leading his team to a Big South conference title. Mincy showed some loyalty—something that seems to be gaining momentum in the NCAA DI.
2.) Kory was a hard-working, high energy student in high school. He worked after-school jobs to help support himself and his family. From this, he appears to be a conscientious individual. When combined with a sense of loyalty, Kory may very well be one who has something to finish with Tony Skinn and George Mason.
3.) Pre>injury, Kory was destined to become a first team A-10 player. There is no doubt in my mind that he would have. If he returns to Mason for another season, he will certainly be named as a preseason first-team selection. Kory could and likely would be an absolute star if he stays put. We have all seen how moving on to a "bigger and better" conference is the death knell of one's career. The Big 10s, SECs, and Big 12s of the world have many players equal to or greater than Kory. Question is, can Kory make a name for himself in one of those places above and beyond all the other names? Woupd one session a new location be enough to make a bigger mark than he would at Mason? Or, would he be just another above average player who could have done just as well or better playing again where he is now?
Does Kory stay at Mason? I would like to believe so. I'd love to imagine a team next year with both a healthy Kory and BOC leading the way. Of course, we shall see after the season is over. Still 4+ games out there.
