Realistically there was no way Mason was gonna be able to retain Mincy, Long and BOC and have any $ left over for the rest of the roster.

If Tony is able to keep the two guards along with Riley, Kanga and Booker, that’s a great place to start for next season.

Tons of combo guards and forwards will be available in the portal and I’m sure the staff will find us some good ones.

I’ve got no insight into how our NIL/rev share money is spent, but I wonder if it makes the most sense to do something exactly like that. Give the vast bulk of your money to 3-4 guys you know are going to fit well together and put up numbers, and take flyers on everyone else and see who hits.

I still like the idea of getting some rich Ivy league players who dont need money but can shoot 40% from 3pt land. Then giving the money to 3 or 4 studs.

I think the stars have mostly aligned to do that this year because of Brayden’s injury and Jahari’s relationship with Tony … otherwise both probably could’ve gotten more money on the open market than we could afford to pay. Honestly that’s probably true for any of the guys if they choose to stay other than Booker.

Just my thoughts on Kory at a higher level- I think this is a fair analysis of him as a player:

Mincy has the real potential to be a high level scoring threat at any level. Shot is good, the scoring IQ is high. There are concerns defensively, and at 6’1, he’s not necessarily got the speed to deal with higher level athleticism. Also a little concerned when he started settling for the mid rangers (even before the thumb injury) in conference play instead of getting to the hoop and the elite foul drawing he showed in non conference play. Sometimes makes a great pass and sometimes makes some horrific decisions. May pan out more as an undersized two guard. Very high ceiling here, especially in terms of three level scoring, if it can be realized.

Yeah that's not how Tony's system works at all. Need tough grinders who will play hard nose defense. Not the right fit for Tony at all. While it could work in a different system and different coach I don't see that going over well. Play defense or don't play. Maybe there's the odd one who fits that mold but that seems like a needle in the haystack.

Why would someone from Ivy come for a Mason diploma? I know most players aren't going for the paper but someone from Ivy probably will be.

Do you really think these guys are thinking about the name of the school on their diploma? Plus, depending on the major, Mason is very respectable nationwide. Not Ivy League, but very respectable.

The biggest problem I have with Skinn is tha he overplayed Long and Mincy at 34 PPG with little or no substitution and wore them out physically by the last third of the season.

There was no excuse for playing Mincy with a severely injured to the point where his thumb , as some suggested here, was dangling from his hand in the NIT.

In most programs, the medical staff evaluation drives the coach decision to play someone. What happened here?

O'onnor, Hill, Adebayo and other players were given a chance to heal on injured reserve throughout the season.

What happened in Mincy's case?

NO way he played against Doctors orders. The injury wasn't as bad. It was dangling gushing blood type scenario...lol. Ligament or muscle tear i would guess. He is tough and obviously wanted to play. Was he wanting to play so he could show his next school how tough he is? Probably.
