Can't . . . look . . . it . . . will . . . not . . . be . . . pretty.

Had to look.

My favorite, "Sometimes you've gotta realize that you're a 7, and that your girlfriend is a 10 who's gonna leave you for a 9. You're still a 7 and that's just kinda the way it is."

They think they still are a 7. Diagnosis: delusional

And it gets better . . . Lanier is reportedly transferring to not Texas, not Kentucky, not UVa, but St. John's. He left The Upgrade for St. Frickin John's.

If you ever went to a CAA Championship game in Richmond - you would understand the vcu thing....
Yes we are now at the bottom, new coach and I think GMU can only go up -

vcu has been on the top (their fans took great pleasure when Coach L left) and lost a coach that moved them forward. Their fans have been saying it was time for Shaka to go, can't get past the first weekend of NCAA's and that they are better off with Wade.
Wade is a good coach but Shaka was bringing in a class of recruits that was serious talent - kids with offers from UConn and UVA - they are all gone. Some fans are starting to realize that Shaka was a brand as well and maybe Wade won't get that talent....

I look forward to our games with vcu next year - can't do any worse then the past few years and if we beat them....their fans will want to run Wade out of town - so why not enjoy the show???

As someone who plays business like it is war or mafia enterprise - I always take great pleasure in celebrating my victories and the defeats of my enemy. I will drink a very fine glass of wine while reading this.

Is it the mean thing to do? Yes.
Is it moral? Maybe not.
Do I give a f**k? No.

Agree, is petty and smacks of envy. I don't envy vcu...not sure why some folks on this board do.
Petty? Envy?

At some point it is just news about a team in our conference losing a player. If you project "petty" and "envy" that's on you. Again I'll say it once more...

Dont. Click. The. Link.

I believe there was a post about Fordham losing one of their top guys. I guess the person posting that bit of info is being petty and envious of Fordham? Get a grip.

It's nice to see that vcu is trending downward while we're trending upward. If we can meet in the middle we'll finally have some competitive games.

Sorry, sat on the sidelines long enough for this one.

First, if he is a top 50 recruit and only averaged 6.6 game, I think the recruiting service has some short comings. I understand upside, but I think this shows what a crapshoot player recruiting is.

Second, the venom felt between us and vcu goes back a while. I don't really have a problem with the team or the staff, it's their fans. Having been involved in Mason basketball for 35 years now, there is not a fan base with any other school that I wan to avoid. No other fans I have dealt with have been as rude either when I am working a game or when I have been a fan at a game. To be so in your face when they win and nasty when they lose, I just would rather not deal with them. Of course, then there is the delusional nature of where there program fits in the nation. They had a great run with excellent matchups in 2011, like we did in 2006. But to think you were going to do that every year and that Richmond is the greatest city in America, please.

Another sideline sitter here: this is not about envy. After years of going to Richmond for the tournament, I grew to seriously dislike vcu fans. Every school has obnoxious fans, but my experiences with vcu fans were consistently negative (as opposed to fans of schools like UNCW). I admire what Shaka Smart achieved as a coach and how the vcu adminstration took advantage of their Final Four run. But vcu fans put the common in commonwealth.

Well hell, if all the other sideliners are chiming in, guess I might as well, too.

It's not just about hating vcu either. I mean, yeah, it's about that too because f*ck them. But it's also about us. The last four years have been pretty miserable. What's worse is that while we've fallen off the face of the Earth, we've had to watch our nemesis actually follow through on their FF run. We haven't just endured losing, we've endured seeing a bitter rival make a similar run and do with it what we had hoped we would do with ours - or so it seemed. Just when the narrative had become nearly cemented - that vcu was going to forever do what was necessary to retain their legendary head coach while we let ours slip away - vcu fell victim to circumstances similar to ours. Like, shockingly similar (never lose to Ohio State in the opening weekend of the NCAAs). If anything, it's been reassuring to know that it wasn't just a matter of Mason dropping the ball. Sure, we did on the Hewitt hire. But when it comes to OCM bailing for Miami, Shaka's departure has provided a pleasant realization that there really was nothing we could do, as there was nothing vcu could do either once an enormous, southern, football-first school with endless resources came knocking. The fact that their fans rubbed it in our faces for years only makes all this that much more enjoyable. So again, it's not *just* about vindictiveness, it's also about redemption. And let me just say that I'm enjoying their delusion and misery immensely and I don't feel the least bit shameful about it. Been there, done that. F*ck them.

GIVING DAY 2023
Surprised that our resident vcu troll hasn't chimed in on this thread.

Guess he must be on suicide watch since Shaka decided he didn't love RVA after all.
