This coming Saturday, Sep 29th, George Mason will host the Mason Invitational Cross Country meet at Oatlands Plantation just south of Leesburg at 10 am. Both men's and women's teams will be running. It is a beautiful venue and a great place to watch and root for the Patriots!
LEESBURG, Va. – With the rainy weather finally yielding, the George Mason men's and women's cross country teams defended their home turf on a picturesque fall day.
The Patriots swept the team titles at the Mason Invitation on a warm Saturday morning at Oatlands Plantation. Competing for the first time in four weeks due to inclement weather postponing an invitational, the Mason men and women both finished first at their only home meet of the season. Sophomore transfer Siobhra O'Flaherty and graduate student Trent Lancaster both led the Patriots with second-place finishes on the men's and women's sides respectively.
Competing against 21 other teams, the George Mason Womens Cross Country team came in 4th place. Some of the other teams in the meet included Mid-Atlantic Region number 1 Villanova, who finished in 1st place, Mid-Atlantic number 5 Maryland who finished in 5th place, and several A-10 foes including GW, La Salle, and St. Joe's who all finished behind the Mason women's team.
The GMU men came in 7th at the Princeton Invitational also competing against Villanova, Princeton, St. Joe's, La Salle, and GW. Trent Lancaster finished first of the Mason men in 29th place with a time of 24:48.7 in the 8K race.
One key mention in the article is the races, Women's 5K at 10am and Men's 8K at 10:50 am will be live streamed on ESPN+. So those of you who want to test out your ESPN+ purchases can watch the A10s on Saturday morning.
One thing to add to the article is both the women's and men's cross country teams greatly improved on their 2017 IC4A/ECAC performances. Both teams improved by 9 spots to finish in 4th place from last year's pair of 13th place finishes. Way to go Patriots!!!
