"My official business was that George Mason is the largest university in Virginia, and it does not have a football team," Clemente said. "I was going to the president and athletic director not because we’re considering a team, but I think we need to be educated in all values of athletic programs."
#Clemente added that it would be important to understand how practical a program would be in interesting to financers as well as affecting the Northern Virginia area.

Clemente went on to say that though he’s visited some of the larger Virginia universities – including UVA and Virginia Tech – that "Penn State is the most successful with its athletic programs," especially in how the football program manages to produce enough funds to support other programs within the university.

In the near future, Clemente intends to have Penn State’s athletic director "talk to the Board of Visitors in person, as to the pros and cons of a football program."

Regardless of any football outcomes, this is great to see they want to "be educated in all values of athletic programs"

As an old Penn State alum, I'm amazed at the school's current athletic facilities. Certainly, the financial success of the football program has helped. But, Penn State also is committed in earning the financial support of its alumni and the business community. As an alum, I'm proud that Penn State wins national championships in several sports on a regular basis.

Years ago, I asked AD O'Connor why Mason didn't start a D-IAA (non-scholarship) football program using the GMU Stadium. This would allow Mason to gauge the support for football by the students, alumni, and community before making a huge financial commitment. He said that Mason would not start a football program unless there were sufficient resources in place to compete for a D-IAA national championship within a few years. This meant that Mason would only start a football program if it were a full scholarship program with a new, state-of-the-art stadium designed specifically for football.

If the AD's philosophy is that the school would not start a football program unless it has the resources to reasonably compete for national championships within a few years, then why isn't Mason maintaining all of its current sports with the sufficient resources to compete for national championships?

Well I can go many ways on this. In the least I will take it as a great change that the BOV is now recognizing the value of athletic programs to the University. While the talk of football in this article may make me feel like I am getting the gold plated reverse cowgirl bronco ride at the Nevada bunny ranch - the fact the value of athletics is being recognized will make me happy to settle for the Happy Ending special at Mama-san Quan's massage emporium.

Hah thanks - not much into porn. That is GNU Tom's wheel house. The man still has a VHS library. Not sure if he has heard of the internet. ;)

I like double entendre's and analogy to make humor.

Here is what I am hearing. The Koch Brothers have offered $100 million for the construction of the Charles and David Koch Stadium but only under the condition that it be shaped in the form of someone giving the finger and it must be pointed at DC. If I hear more, I will post.

I am also hearing that we will be moving to the AAC once the announcement is made but JMU still can only get an invite from the Sun Belt.

My mistake, ACC or Big Ten for us. Towson will likely take the last Sun Belt spot. JMU will downgrade to non-scholarship FCS. They will however complete the other side of their stadium just in case the ACC changes its mind.

News is really coming fast now. JMU will have a noon presser where they will announce they will convert back to their original name “The State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg." However, SNISWH is expected to continue to play football. From what I am hearing it will be the only womens football team and they are assured of winning the national championship every year. Go Dukes!

Funniest thread so far on the new boards.

Pablo, be careful, I know how you like to keep your identity a secret, but you just gave us a tidbit of personal information (that you went to Penn State). Now we can narrow down who you really are even further. So, for everyone keeping track of what we know about Pablo so far:
He is the Rain Man of Mason basketball statistics
He knows where every former Mason athlete currently is in the world
He went to Penn State (and is evidently old as well based on his statement above)

We have you now. Be prepared for your true identity to be exposed...
