Getting Sherrod Off to a Quick Start Offensively

How important is it for the Patriots for Sherrod to get off to a quick start offensively? Well, consider Sherrod's first FG made each game so far this season:

Mason 63- AU 60: Layup with 15:26 remaining in the first half (AU 12-Mason 4)

Mason 68-Lamar 54: A 3-pt. FG with 17:30 remaining in the first half (Mason 3-Lamar 2)

Mason 76-Northern Iowa 70: Jumper with 19:08 remaining in the first half (Mason 2-Northern Iowa 0)

Mason 58-St. Francis (PA) 46: A 3-pt. FG with 7:53 remaining in the first half (Mason 15-St. Francis 12)

Iona 89-Mason 73: A 3-pt. FG with 8:29 remaining in the first half (Iona 34-Mason 8)

It's obviously a benefit to have a great scorer like Sherrod, but the downside is that we tend to go as he goes. When he gets off to a slow start or plays passively, the rest of the team seems to follow suit.

The bad thing about an offensive-minded team like ours is that we obviously need to score to offset our defensive deficiencies. When we missed several easy shots early against Iona, it snowballed very quickly because we allowed the frustration on that end to compound our effort defensively.

Agreed. So lets hope the first few plays are designed to get him the ball in scoring position. It was either UNI or St Francis where he didn't even touch the ball on the first few possessions. Not sure if that is a product of the defense, the play call or players not running the play correctly. Its probably a mix of all three, unfortunately..........

Sherrod's nick name should be "1 Half Man". He can only score for 1 half. Whatever mental aspect he spoke about working on in the off season, I don't think it was successful.

It was St. Francis. Against UNI Sherrod scored our first 6 points of an 8-0 run to start the game.
