Now that the roster is set for next season what do we think is the starting 5 when we open up the season in Nov? No matter what it will be a very experienced group. Johnson and Maddox are guaranteed and I think Anderson, Billups, and Haynes are the other likely starters. Will be interesting to see if Haynes and Emejeru play together.

Think this needs to be in a new thread.

Jared Billups
Darius Maddox

Jalen Haynes

I will say that I do think Billups will play less of a role this year even if he "starts". I can see him being a 10-15 minute guy because he is limited offensively. This also assumes he doesn't dramatically improve.

But I also think that a guy like a Oconnor or Ball will need time before they take the starting role/more minutes.

I would love for Ball to take a jump forward this year and start with Maddox and Anderson and play 20 minutes a game or whatever.

Slightly OT: I ran into Jalen Haynes at Walgreens last week... that dude is a mountain. Sure, he's as tall as we'd all expect, but you get a new appreciation for him when you realize how structurally big he is. So excited to finally see him on the court!

I'm expecting to get double figures in points from Haynes, Anderson, and Maddox. I can also see a bunch of guys averaging in the 7-9 range due to our depth (at least on paper). So if Johnson struggles at the point I can see him playing the 2 with Billups and pretty much split the minutes evenly with a defensive mind set. I also see our starting line-up being fluid depending on the opponent. Need to go big? Start Haynes and Emejuru. Need to matchup smaller and quicker? Adjust accordingly. One thing is certain, minutes will have to be earned this season more than any in recent history. I just want to see wins.

He is going to put some dudes in the third row of end zone seats for sure. Looking forward to it.

I still want this lineup lol. Just may not get it, ever.

For me, replace Billups with BOC. If Haynes is on the floor, I want Newton there for rebounding, so my starting 5 is:

KD
BOC
Maddox
Anderson
Emejuru

Woody and Haynes come off the bench as a tandem. Billups is deployed as a defensive stopper when needed.
I like this lineup too. And I did think we’d see billups play a bit less this year.

That lineup will never grab a single rebound lol

This would be my ideal lineup, I think this gives us the best chance to win. Love Billups and everything he’s done for this team, but he gets way too much run for a guy who is almost no scoring threat whatsoever.

Gio defensively deserves the start over Haynes at this point, who seems to be struggling to get back into the swing of things. Run Anderson opposite court from Maddox and dare teams to cheat screens and help.

My thoughts on KD are well documented at this point but think he can thrive in this type of lineup.

We’ll probably never see this.

Billups and Newton should not be on the court together (except for defensive possessions), and Anderson and Maddox should be on the court together 30 minutes a game (or maybe 25 together and 5 apart, to keep shooter on court when other is resting).

Fill in everything else based on that.

Hard to imagine that Ball will be ready anytime soon just from his appearance. He must have had a serious respitory issue. He has lost considerable weight. Is it possible they can red shirt him. I'm
Not sure of the rules. He has a lot of potential and i would hate for him to waste a year. His health is of course the number one issue.

I would like to see:
KD
Maddox
Billups
Anderson
Gio

O'Connor spells 1-3
Newton spells Anderson at 4
Haynes spells Gio at 5

If Ball comes back, he would spell the 3-4 and cut into Newtons time.

I can’t like this enough. It’s so obvious.
