"FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team will welcome Robert Morris to EagleBank Arena on Saturday for its' last non-conference home game of the season.

With a win, the Patriots would match the best start in program history, set in 2000-01 when the team opened with five wins over Morgan St., St. Francis, Portland State, Ball State and Georgetown.

Saturday's game marks just the second meeting between the two teams, with the first coming last season at Robert Morris. The Colonials used a late push in a come-from-behind victory that gave the hosts the 53-52 win.

Both teams most recently played on Wednesday. The Patriots picked up a victory in a 60-52 defensive battle with Pitt to move to 4-0 on the season. Robert Morris also played at home, hosting Akron, falling 63-58 to the Zips in overtime.

PATRIOT POINTS
  • Freshman Kennedy Harris was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Monday after averaging 12.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and shooting 54.2%
  • For the fourth time in the same number of games, Sonia Smith tallied double-figure scoring against Pitt, dropping a team-high 15 points with a career-high-matching three made three-pointers. She leads the team with 13.3 points per game (13th, A-10)
  • Ta'Viyanna Habib also tallied double-digits with 10 points and averages 13.0 points (16th, A-10). She is one of five Patriots that are averaging double-figures for Mason
  • Sonia Smith and Paula Suárez are once again leading the Patriots, averaging 3.5 and 3.3 per game, respectively. The pari ranks in the top 15 in the Atlantic 10

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team will continue its' road trip this Sunday when it travels to Baltimore to take on the Eagles of Coppin State.

The Patriots and Eagles will play for the second-straight year and for the eighth time in program history on Sunday. Not only is Mason looking to remain unbeaten on the season, but it will also look to remain undefeated against Coppin State as Mason is 7-0 against the Baltimore natives. Last year, the Patriots won at home, 59-51.

Both teams picked up notable wins this past week. Mason beat American, 72-62, to move to 6-0 and mark the best start in program history. Meanwhile, Coppin State went on the road and beat Pittsburgh, 61-56, for its' first Power 5 victory in program history.

PATRIOT POINTS
  • Sonia Smith continued an individual streak of her own, posting her sixth double-figure scoring performance with a season-high 18 points. She also set season-highs in rebounds (8), assists (6) and steals (2). Her 13.8 points per game rank her 11th in the Atlantic 10
  • For the third time this season, five players scored in double-figures. Joining Smith was Kennedy Harris (12), Ta'Viyanna Habib (11), Nekhu Mitchell (11) and Paula Suarez (10). Mitchell and Suarez both registered season-bests as Suarez hit a season-high three 3's.
  • Joining Smith in the top-25 of the Atlantic 10 for field goal percentage is Habib and Kennedy
  • Mitchell and Jazmyn Doster led the way on defense as both tallied career-high steal totals, with three and four, respectively
  • As a team, Mason ranks second in points per game (78.7), point margin (16.8) and steals per game (10.83)
  • The Patriots also lead the conference in rebounding, with 42.7 per game, and in turnover margin at 7.00"

If the record book is correct, Mason is 0-7 vs. UMD and the closest loss was 12 points at College Park. The closest home loss was 28 points when UMD was ranked #5 in the country -

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team will once again put its' unblemished record on the line this weekend when it travels to nationally-ranked Maryland on Sunday.

Last season, Maryland downed Mason in Fairfax, 88-51. The Terrapins have won all seven meetings in program history, including all three meetings in College Park. It will be the second-straight year the two teams are meeting after a 10-year hiatus.

The last time out, Mason continued the best start in program history with a dominant 70-38 win on the road at Coppin State to move to 7-0. Similarly, Maryland hosted Niagara in College Park, picking up a 114-44 victory to improve to 5-3.

PATRIOT POINTS
  • Sonia Smith leads the Patriots with 13.3 points per game (15th, A-10) and has tallied double-figures in every game this season. She also leads the team with 3.6 assists per game
  • Sophomore Nekhu Mitchell leads the team with 6.0 rpg (15th, A-10) and 1.9 steals per game (8th, A-10), anchoring a strong Patriot defense that forces opponents in 20.4 turnovers per game for a turnover margin of 6.43 (30th nationally)
  • Freshman Kennedy Harris ranks third on the squad with 10.4 ppg. Leading to those points are a team-best 10 made threes at .435 (14th, A-10) and a team-best 14-15 free throws at .938 (5th, A-10)
  • The Patriots lead the Atlantic 10 with 43.7 rebounds per game (37th nationally) and are second with 15.1 offensive rebounds per game (49th nationally)
  • Head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis has continued to flex her team's depth this season, and the Patriots rank No. 9 in the country in bench points per game at 36.0

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Maryland remains in the national polls this week, sitting at No. 24 in the coaches poll and receiving votes in the AP poll. The Terps sit at 5-3 on the season, with all three losses coming to ranked opponents, including South Carolina and Connecticut. However, Maryland is currently on a three-game win streak with two wins at the Cancun Challenge over Green Bay and Massachusetts and a convincing 114-44 home victory on Wednesday against Niagara.

Preseason All-Big Ten selection Shyanne Sellers leads Maryland's offense with 16.9 points and 5.0 assists per game. She has hit a team-high 42 field goals at a .438 clip and is just about automatic at the free throw line, hitting 43 of 49 attempts on the season. She has also tallied a team-best 16 steals and five blocks and is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.


Three other Terps also average double-figure scoring: Jakia Brown-Turner (11.1), Brinae Alexander (10.8) and Bri McDaniel (10.8). Brown-Turner is also the team lead in rebounding with 5.4 boards per contest. Alexander leads the team from beyond the arc with a team-high 23 made threes at 44.2% while matching Sellers for the lead in steals with 16.
