Overall Mason played really well, considering they went on the road and opened the season against the #2 team in the nation.

Marshall had the superior depth and was able to wear us down with their substitutions, and eventually take over the game after Mason dominated/maintained possession majority of the first quarter of the game.

Mason was extremely close to scoring another goal but their goalie made an incredible save, but ultimately they did not get enough shots on goal to keep pace with Marshall.

Look forward to then taking out their frustrations next Thursday vs #17 UVA at home and plan to be there.

For those unfamiliar with IV night (as I was):

"IVth night is an annual tradition named in honor of our University's namesake, George Mason the Fourth. Come hang out with us for our fall carnival cohosted with Mason Recreation and Mason Athletics. Join your fellow students at The RAC Field for free food, carnival games with AMAZING prizes, DIY activities, inflatables, and a rock wall. But wait, there's more. Have your picture drawn, get an airbrushed tattoo, don a crown of balloons or cuddle a balloon animal, vibe with the DJ, and make sure you arrive early to get your Mason Fight Song t-shirt! Then, head over to the men's soccer game versus UVA. Don't forget to stick around afterwards for the fireworks show following the soccer game."

Fairly even game to start, Mason maybe had the edge until they scored first. Shortly after UVA got a red card for arm tackling our player on a fast break. We scored off the free kick following the red card and have been dominating with the man advantage ever since.

As UVA scores on a corner kick… 2-1 now

4-1 Mason. 15 yellows, 2 reds, game ended 10 v 10.

1st win over a ranked opponent in 11 years, hopefully UVA doesn’t drop too fall and we get into the rankings. Couldn’t have asked for a better outcome!

Next up: a very solid Bucknell team at home on Tuesday, and #10 WVU at home next Sunday!

Big crowd. Lots of youth soccer teams but in the section closest to the ticket line, they seemed more interested in jumping down each of the metal bleacher steps and blocking my view. Aargh! Sit down and watch the game!

Wound up standing in front of the bleachers in the second half, which wasn't the best viewing but better than the first half. Did recognize Brayden O'Connor and what looked like a handful of teammates standing together.

Saw President Washington walk by and gave him some words of encouragement. Tough times to be a University President dealing with an unsupportive Board of Visitors.

FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason sophomore forward Martim Sereno scored a pair of goals, while junior midfielder James Eliuda and graduate student midfielder Jacobo Sanfeliu each found the back of the net to lift the Patriots to a 4-1 victory over No. 11 Virginia in front of a crowd of 3,077 on Thursday night at George Mason Stadium.

The victory marks the highest-ranked win by the Patriots in 14 years. The win tonight marks the second-highest seed that George Mason has beaten since they took down No. 2 Maryland on September 29, 2009. It's the seventh win over a top-20 team in program history.

The crowd of 3,077 marked the largest for a George Mason men's soccer match in 25 years. The 1,385 students in attendance set a new program record.

Brings back the memory of us beating #1 Uva back in 96. Eduardo Lima had a hat trick i think.
