6’6 guard out of Texas is coming to Mason. Was at Vandy and then Texas. Redshirted this past year.

Welcome to Malik.

a junior?
and i am still worried about playing time for all these guys
200 minutes per game

in a perfect world
i would love to have 10 guys playing 20 minutes per game and averaging 9 points per game

why did he redshirt?

It looks like it was announced in December during the season that he was going to redshirt. I don't see anywhere that states he was injured at all. Wonder if it was an Austin Ball situation where he was buried behind depth that ultimately would have wasted an eligibility year playing minimal minutes. I think he played the same position as Tre Johnson who is projected to be a Top 5 Draft pick.

Seems like a total flyer...maybe our staff + playing in A10 unlocks something, but can't say I have any idea what he will or won't bring to the team at this point. Don't hate the add at this juncture.

Some interesting context on Malik:

During his only season with Vanderbilt, Presley appeared in 26 games, making five starts. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds a game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field. While those statistics don't jump off the page, Presley did have a few impressive games. That included a career-high 11-point effort against Auburn.

While Presley could not flash his potential at Texas, he should still draw some interest in the portal. He will also be motivated to put a disappointing 2024-2025 campaign behind him. Regardless of the program he ends up with, Presley will get to show why he should get more playing time.

Given our current roster make up, except for the desire to add a true five, this is a perfect kid to take a high upside flyer on. No risk at all and perhaps he can be a Keyshawn Hall, but with a better attitude.
