Josh had a great season. No doubt about it. 1st team A10. 1st in scoring, 8th in rebounding, and 6th in blocks. I was thinking about next steps for the 22-23 season because even the best can get better. One area that stood out to me was his turnovers. He led the team with 74 despite being 5th in minutes played. If he stays healthy, does a better job of staying out of foul trouble, and takes better care of the ball it will help us immensely.

Lower the turnovers would be huge. It’s mostly spinning into help defense or forcing the issue so if he does an even better job of passing out of double teams that would be huge.

He could also be meaner on the defensive boards.

Good for him! I'd imagine they'll tell him to return to school, but should get some good feedback on what to work on in his game. And on the off chance he doesn't and gets drafted, good for him as well.

Good for Josh. But he definitely underperformed against bigger/tougher 5s. Where he shined was against equal (e.g., Golden) or teams that didn't have the right matchup. If he can get better at starting further out and/or make his jump shot more lethal he'd have a real shot. Hoping he can do it...want nothing but the best for him.

Sort of. He had a great game against Wahab at Maryland and he’s bigger and tougher. He had tough games against Brajkovic, Ohams, and Kansas’s second guy (forget his name).

For A lot of other teams they doubled him and waited for him to make a move to double and he wound up in a lot of tough situations because he was spinning into a secondary defender, etc.

Doubt he’d be drafted this year (I won’t say no way, because Bigs and bigs and are different). It’ll be good for him to know what he has to work on and where they evaluate him right now.

Since the 4 is now a perimeter position in the NBA too, I’m sure they’re gonna want him to show he can be consistently effective playing away from the rim: handling, passing and most important of all, shooting the 3.

It will give him a good, focused plan of attack for individual workouts this summer, and hopefully he’ll start preseason practice with an expanded game that will make it harder for opposing teams to double him. Being able to facilitate offense through Josh and draw opposing bigs out of the paint will also create driving lanes so we can stop being fully reliant on making jumpers to score.

Agree with all of this, but at or near the top of the list is learning how to avoid ticky-tack fouls and stay on the court. That has to be a main focus going into next year if he wants to take his game to the next level.

Absolutely right. So in summary he needs to get stronger to deal with physical play, expand his offensive game and learn to defend without fouling

Easy peasy.

I'm also going to take the summer to work on these things and who knows...maybe you guys will see me on the court next year

An actual full team of guys who aren't talented enough to get looks at the next level? Is that what your heart desires?
You may have enjoyed watching Schwartz launch shot after shot and never see the bench while the team spiraled to 9th place but I'd rather see a coach develop guys instead of starting over every year

I don’t know why I’m taking the bait but KE has been here basically exactly a year. He still currently has a roster built from Paulsen(for another couple weeks), you didn’t see any development from Oduro? If you watched the coaches show it sounds like this summer is going to be focusing on developing and strengthening Gaines, Cooper, Polite, Jones.

Schwartz, for those following at home, would be D'Shawn Schwartz whose 15.5 points was second on the team and 10th overall in the A10. By launching "shot after shot" caricaturejoe is referring to his 46% FG% (2nd on the team among those averaging +8 Min. per game) and 38% 3P%.

Keep digging, Joe! Just a few more shovel-fulls of your posts and you'll dug yourself out of the clown hole you're in.
