• THANK YOU DONORS!!
I'd like to personally thank everyone that participated in our first donor drive in years! We raised over double the amount that we set as a goal. You guys are awesome! This money helps to fuel much needed upgrades around here - and also includes monthly server costs and software licenses. We are excited for the future and your donations ensure that there will be a place to talk about George Mason basketball (among other things) for seasons to come! - The Management

He was 4 stars coming out of high school. Best we've had. DP would be fighting for 1 star scraps with Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow and Sister Teresa's School for the Blind.
Stars stop mattering the minute you step on campus.

You know what DOESN'T stop mattering? Being a career 36% 3point shooter, and a guy who shot 40% from 3 last year (on 4 attempts per game). He's the best shooter on the team the instant he arrives.

This is very, very encouraging re: English.

Forgot about Royal. My comment about Copes applies to him too. How in the world did either one of them ever get 4 stars!?

Some guys just don't pan out (see: Jermaine Harris of URI). But Copes certainly had potential, he just never capitalized on it (wrong coach, wrong mindset). Example, he had 7 blocks against Drexel in basically a half his freshman year. He's sixth all-time in blocks in a single season just behind Mike Morrison and 5th all-time in total blocked shots, and that's for a guy who only averaged 20 mpg for his career. A physically dominant player that just never got better on the offensive side.

royal I think was a stud in high school but never panned out. I think copes always was highly regarded defensively and for rebounding. His hip injury held him back but also his attitude, obviously.

Ah yes, the hip. Forgot about that.

very much so. Amazing how within two weeks he can land a 4star player yet in all of Dave’s time he could never land anything close to this level of talent. Need to know how to coach well and recruit well (sounds so simple) but so far English is on fire. Excited on what is to come for this team as they pivot from the bottom..

I think you missed my point. The fact that he was a four star means nothing. The fact that he shot 40% from 3 means everything.

Transfer's high school recruiting rankings should be entirely disregarded, as they are a piss-poor substitute for what really matters: what kind of college player they are.

The best way to tell what kind of college player somebody is likely to be is what kind of college player they have been, not what they did several years in the past. Shwartz has been a good shooter in college with good size. That means he's likely to be a good shooter with good size for us.

That's a big win, but it has nothing to do with his H.S. stars. Stars are useful for evaluating H.S. players, that's it.

I'm looking for big things from him and Cooper on the offensive end. If both average 14-15 we have the chance to surprise a lot of people. He should be one of the main options at Mason as opposed to the 3rd or 4th option at Colorado.
