Both Kanga and Booker looked much better than the average frosh. They played without fear.
Allenspach and Sivka = The Big Fundamentals. Both can/will contribute positively.
I was surprised to see Long running the point for the Gold Team.
It's VERY early but I would put us behind where we were at the same time last year.
The attendance sucked. No surprise there.
Always nice to see members of the board @tblack33 and have a chance to compare notes/thoughts. .

I saw about 3/4 of scrimmage. Lots of athleticism.
Agree on Booker (really can shoot the open 3!) and Kanga (defensive presence; sometimes has trouble handling passes).
Sivka is an asset moving the ball; works well with BOC.
Mincy was a bit of a disappointment (2 assists, 2 TOs).
Hill 5/1

No sign of Ellington other than the headshot roster picture that was available.

GIVING DAY 2023
All the usual can’t take much away from one scrimmage in October blah blah….

I’d temper your expectations for this team. Feels like there’s a talent gap between us and the top of the conference that didn’t exist last year. Middle of the pack feels about right, somewhere between 6-9 depending on how the ball bounces a few nights.

Mincy looked nice handling the ball, but I don’t think he defends at a high enough level to be a starter in Tony’s system. I won’t be surprised if he ends up coming off the bench at some point.

BOC had stretches where it was clear he knew the system and how to thrive in it, and stretches where he completely disappeared.

Troutman looked legit. Very smooth finisher. Should have a great season.

Kanga better than expected, I could see him pushing for starter type minutes by conference play.

Booker with a very smooth jumper and really flowed in the offense, but isn’t close to there defensively yet. Maybe by January, because we’re going to desperately need shooting.

Hill probably the most athletic and one of the best defenders, but more limited offensively.

Think there’s a lot of opportunity for Dola to do well here but he seems like he’s still learning the system more than most at this point.

Long looked really good and can plug in a few places. His experience is going to be invaluable.

A lot more thoughts, I’ll be interested to see what things look like in 4 weeks when the season kicks off.

I think a better indicator of talent is the player game logs.

For example Hill:

If you look at his game log, he averaged about 16 per game. 27 of 31 over double digits, 17 games with 17 or more, 8 with 20 or more (including 25 vs. Dayton, 22 vs Richmond). ...he gets for rack and draws fouls..17 games with 6+ fta...12-13 vs Dayton.

Alot of these guys were the no 1 options on their previous teams..they have to figures out how to sacrifice their games and blend together...
