How to make a college basketball game last 3 hours.

A book by Teddy Valentine
At one point Esherick said "that was a good call by Valentine, and I can't believe I actually said that."
BTW, I like Esherick. Good guy. Knows the teams and players and really seems to enjoy calling A-10 games.

I agree- He helps Bill out a lot with the PBP and actually knows the programs and teams. He doesn't butcher anyones name either as so many times over the years we'd hear "Arlich, Oduroo, Livingstone" etc.

“No matter what the conditions are, that’s how we like it.”

When is the last time our coach could make this statement and we all knew in our bones that it was dead on true?

The word MINDSET is getting tossed around a lot these days, but when you can get a group of people to buy in and genuinely believe that you will find a way to be successful, no matter what, that is powerful stuff.

There is something special happening with this team. They have finally embraced the spirit of physical and mental toughness Kim has been demanding since Day 1. No excuses, no BS, just dig in and get the effing job done whatever it takes.

This is a program culture we can all rock with.
"Program culture" Yes, not just "team."
It would be great if JO and Ticket stayed, but even if they leave, "program" persists as new guys come in. Go CKE!!

DP must have experienced some interesting emotions coming back to the PatDome and losing against his old team. Hope there was vodka in that Mountain Dew.

I got a pic of DP and Josh hugging in the postgame handshake line I'll post later. He and CKE shared a pregame hug as well. I liked DP, he left the program better than it was when he got here but Mason made the right call. I'll always root for success for DP.

Oh me too - DP is a great man. I am just saying it's an interesting scenario.

I understand the sentiment and we need to stay classy.

But to be honest, I could’ve left this program better than how Paulsen found it …… and I’ve never coached or even know how to work my new weird coffee maker. Thing has god damn 50 buttons on it! I just want some coffee for gods sake!!!

credit to Singelton who is quietly getting the job done. He has that sneaky presence. can drive to the basket, get an important rebound, plays tight defense, and fight like hell under the basket. I had questions about his play early but he has blended in nicely. But please keep working on those free throws.

Looking back at it, Ticket going down when he did may have been fortuitous. It allowed Singleton to get major minutes, giving the team and CKE the opportunity to figure out the best way to exploit his unique skill set. Then Ticket - with his tenenacious D - comes back and overnight this team is transformed, and discoveres it has an identity it can rally around and believe in.

Since the URI game we are in rarified air in terms of the company we keep, in terms of defensive efficiency, rebounding, and 3 pt defense, as well as wins above bubble (WAB). Among DI teams we are:

Effective FG Defense - 17th
3pt FG Defense - 16th
Defensive Rebounding - 33rd
WAB - 18th

And in terms of offense, here's the batshit crazy part: during this period we are 9th in the country in free throw rate (FTR) . Of course, we're among the worst teams when it comes to free throw percentage so we negate this huge advantage we have. If we were merely an average free throw shooting team, with our ability to get to the line, we would be FORMIDABLE. Full stop.

I don't know what can be done to magically arrest our dreadful shooting from the charity stripe so I think it'll just be a burden we will have to shoulder.

Regardless, with the current level we are playing at our WAB indicates we are playing like an NCAA tourney team.
