"Coaching rumors swirl around Moton again (Durham Herald-Sun)" by News Robot

Since he arrived at North Carolina Central seven years ago as an assistant coach, LeVelle Moton has taken an annual ride on the offseason coaching carousel — and this year is no different. Moton’s name continues to be tossed around as head coaching positions across the country open up. “I’ve turned down jobs every year […]

He is definitely a self-promoter, but also does seem to do stuff for the community. The question is, can he win games at GMU in the A10? Lots of Games? If so.... I will take that bravado with some NCAA Tourneys on the side.

I want him in Fairfax! It will be great to have somebody who isn't afraid to be in the community again! If Coach Prohm doesn't work out, hire Coach Moton!

A little too much - ok, way too much - bravado for me (turning down jobs every year?) I hope we take a pass.

I like his swagger - that's one of the reasons he is appealing to me. I want someone who's going to come in here and ruffle a few feathers with the rest of the A10. Swagger only works if you win, so if he wants the bravado, he better win.

I think he identifies more with the rough, poor communities that he grew up in. And that is great. However, Fairfax does not really have those areas. Not sure we are a good fit.

Looks to me that Moton would be an immediate shot of adrenaline to the program. After the last 4 years our program has flat linned. I don't know if he would win big here but his teams look well coached and I'm sure he could use his "street cred" to win over some talented kids. I'd rather him than the guy from Albany or Cherry.

There are plenty of areas in Fairfax that aren't rich. Yes, there are wealthy people. But there are plenty of poor people like me running around.

I couldn't care less — that's for Brian and/or wijg — if he fits in well with the community as long as he fits in well in the living rooms of the kids he is trying to recruit. If kids like Gilbert relate to his style and confidence, more power to him. The Fairfax community will adapt just fine.

I was not indicating that he would not fit well with Fairfax, the feeling I get - based on the few videos of him - he seems to be the kind of guy that really cares about helping those who grow up in poor neighborhoods. THAT seems to be part of his public image. Does he now just say, I was just joking with that, SHOW ME THE MONEY!

How else is he supposed to help the poor neighborhoods?

My many years of business experience has shown me that everyone has a price - everyone. I have bought and sold more virtuous people than I care to admit.

Make the right offer and you will see him sipping champagne at the next opera in the Center for the Arts with oldest bunch of boring people you have ever saw.

Sorry, but who gives a flying fig about the Fairfax community and what it thinks about our men's basketball coach?

Has anyone looked at our attendance over the past 20 years?

If anyone remembers, we used to have a corny-a** white coach who schmoozed with the best of them. Even after he led us to a Final Four, we still couldn't sell out a 10,000-seat arena more than once or twice the following season -- and one of those sellouts was the season-opening, banner-raising game against Wichita State. Pitiful.

We also had a smooth, cool, smart African-American coach who couldn't get out of his own way. Not surprisingly, as the losses mounted, our previously mediocre attendance has fallen to embarrassing levels.

Quite frankly, I couldn't care less how affluent the area surrounding our campus happens to be. I also couldn't care less whether the community would be put off by a guy like Moton.

Until the community embraces our program by showing up for games, they can go F themselves.

That is some serious quality hate.

I'm on board the Moton train - see http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebask...8/a-fathers-parting-gift-pushes-levelle-moton:

"Before he became the 1996 CIAA player of the year and the school’s head coach 13 years later, he was a kid trapped in the drug game. He and his friends robbed convenience stores and engaged in petty crime. They also helped local dealers -- although they were too naïve to know exactly what they were involved with -- move their product through the neighborhood:

'I’d walk a package across the street to a parking lot for 10 dollars. I’d take a stroll down the block for 10 dollars. Eventually, after a few times walking across the street, I realized that I wasn’t delivering cookies.'

But everything changed the night police came to his home to question him about a murder that his buddies had committed during a burglary. Moton said he could have easily gone with that group that day but decided to stay home and watch "Good Times.”

That choice probably saved his life.

Today, he said he uses the lessons that he details in his book to teach his players about the value of good decisions. He said his background helps him reach young men (and their families) who’ve endured fatherless upbringings.

'People just want you to be real, especially when they’re giving you their most prized and precious possessions,' he said."

Not saying Moton wouldn't fit in here. I was saying maybe he doesn't see us as a good fit for him.
