More background:
I like itThis is ridiculous at this stage of the off season, but ESPN has us as an 11 seed/last four in and Richmond as a 6 seed https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/30423107/ncaa-women-bracketology-2026-women-college-basketball-projections?appsrc=sc&RuleNumber=Not Applicable&consent_mode=ccpa
Optimism for next season starts with Harris and Walton coming back - both 1st all conference caliber players.I like it
but dont believe it
we have lost 4 of the first 10 -including leadership and scoring
will have to see how the returning 6 develop and what the new transfers and incoming freshmen bring
hope the buyout clause is big enough to get another good coach

Outgoing
From what Ball State coach said a year ago when she transferred from A&M:First transfer announcement for women’s basketball: Texas A&M/Ball State forward Maliyah Johnson.
i wonder what happened with her. This move seems like a step down.Outgoing
I knew she was in the portal, but I thought she would get more higher level attention. She was a significant contributor for us and a likely starter this coming season. Sorry to see her go.

Hmmm, something seems a bit off. Spent 3 years in the SEC with good coaching and doesn't make much of an impact there. Transfers down and only gets 16 mins a game off the bench and averages 5.5 points a game. Last season she came off an injury year. That may of been a key factor.
But... if she was 100% last year and she developed properly at Texas A&M then she should have started at Ball State and put up some numbers but seems she couldn't start at Ball State for some reason.
54% is telling me she scores only around the rim.
4 years in and don't see a high ceiling and what else is left to develop for her. Maybe she gets back to 100% health wise and takes a major step forward.
Probably a rotational piece here...10-15 mins off the bench and 6-8 points a game. Of course, hoping for more.
This Maliyah Johnson (above) is not the same as this one:
https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/makayla-johnson-2/. The latter one is the 5' 9" Elizabeth Seton player that committed to Mason in November.
And to add to the confusion, neither is the same as this one!
