Terrible collapse at the end of the Liberty game:

Walton misses second free throw with a chance to go up 4

On the other side, someone loses their player on a screen and she gets a wide open look at a 3 to tie it.

Mason throws away their inbound on the other side and the Liberty players takes it all the way down and Volker fouls her with no time left.

Liberty makes 1 of 2 and game over.

Real disappointing loss against a good Liberty team. Had an 8 pt lead with 5 minutes left but only scored 3 more points in the rest of the game. Key turnovers, twice trying to inbound the ball.

Surprisingly strong 3 pt shooting from MJ Johnson (5-9) and Louis Volker (4-7).

They need a lot of improvement to get to where they were last year.

Richmond beaten by 20 at their place by Fairfield, a decent team but who just lost at Howard in their previous game.

Not much consolation but at least it wasn't as bad as Minnesota blowing a 9 pt lead in the last minute of double overtime to Maryland!

A10 talk summary of teams so far--not including Dayton game:

George Mason

Record: 6-6 (1-0)

NET: 67

Torvik: 69

Top Scorer: Zahirah “Zaza” Walton 20 PPG

The reigning Atlantic 10 Tournament Champions find themselves on the outside looking in for the moment. George Mason struggled to win some of the games that should have been winnable games. The Patriots come into conference play sitting at 0.500, and had a tough non-conference schedule going to this season. George Mason took down teams in James Madison, Georgetown, and Florida Gulf Coast. Some of their losses come against Power 4 opponents and top mid-majors. The Patriots loss to a Liberty team that was a come from behind and to a top-25 Princeton team. Zahirah “Zaza” Walton and Kennedy Harris return to Fairfax and continue to lead the team in scoring. George Mason brought in talent from the portal Rhode Island transfer Hawa Komara and Ball State transfer MJ Johnson to bolster up the roster after graduating Paula Suarez and losing players to the portal. This Patriot team is looking a third player to step up in scoring, but also gain more trust in each other and build chemistry. Mason’s start to conference play has a bit of a lighter tilt to it as they do not face a team within the top five until January 18th. The Patriots have both Saint Joseph’s and Richmond twice, and has an easier path to the top as they face Dayton and George Washington twice who could make things interesting in George Mason’s path towards being at the top.

"Walton posted 25 points on 70% shooting, including 10-13 from the free throw line vs. the Flyers on New Years Eve. She scored 14 of those points in the fourth quarter to secure the Patriots' 74-59 victory. Walton also scored four rebounds and dished out four assists."

"HOPEWELL, N.J. (January 21, 2026) — Redshirt junior Zahirah Walton has been named to the 15-player midseason watch list for the 2025 Becky Hammon Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats. The Becky Hammon Award was first given out in 2020, and Harvard's Harmoni Turner won the most recent award in 2025.

Walton has been a steady offensive leader for George Mason throughout the season, consistently producing in double figures. Through games played as of Jan. 20, Walton is averaging 19.8 points per game, ranking among the top scorers nationally, and has totaled 336 points on the year while shooting 46.2 percent from the field. She has recorded multiple season-high performances, highlighted by strong outings against nationally ranked opponents, including Princeton, Ole Miss, and Maryland, where she continued to serve as the Patriots' primary scoring option. Walton is 20th in the nation in scoring and 11th in free throw attempts.

This year's midseason list includes representatives from 15 teams and 13 conferences. Two conferences – the A-10 and Summit League – placed two players on the watch list. South Dakota State's Brooklyn Meyer is the lone player making their second appearance on a midseason watch list this season, previously being named to the 2025 iteration."

Quite an honor and I would love to see her get this. Don't know any of the other players, but based on the numbers it will be hard for any other A10 player to win it over Richmond's Maggie Doogan.

Yeah--Davidson is 1 ahead of us, yet they have 4 conference losses including one at their place to Mason. How does that make sense?

Doesn't help us that Maryland has lost 4 in a row and has dropped to #22 in the polls after being in the top 10 much of the year.
