Ohhhhh NOW they are granting access to the patio deck outside of the Gold Room!? Asked them for 10 years to open that thing up. Always a lame excuse about the fire code hazard..... so if they are opening that up then how are they getting around the fire code aspect!?

Interesting to see where they will place this DJ at in the student section. He used to be over by the band kinda hidden away.
ODU has the DJ experience and it's awful. He won't shut up and is always telling the fans when to do things. It really disrupts my experience when I'm at Chartway. And now he'll be beside me at the PatDome. Ugh

If it gets the students off the phone, then good. But I don't have hope. I went to a UVA game last year and every break they were telling you to get up and cheer. So thirsty. There is no DJ at the Duke games.

If the DJ plays the crap music kids listen to today it will be painful. If he plays Barry Manilow and Wayne Newton to cater to the blue haired old ladies it will suck. Now hit the Bay City Rollers and The Bee Gees I'm all in!!!!!!!!!! ;)

I'm going to give it a game but I'm not optimistic about a DJ. I'm adopting a wait and see attitude about the Gold Room as well. I'll believe it when I've seen it.

I go to Howard FB, VB and BBall games. The DJ sits in the new de facto student section end the first row at end court. He plays this terrible music that I have never heard of but apparently everyone under 25 has. The students, as well as the players from both teams are bopping, dancing around, and singing the words to these songs.

Note - I am 65 years old!!

Never knew why they brought in a DJ in the first place to the games. We have one of the best pep bands in ALL of the nation. Use them..Let them cook. Some may think they have gotten redundant but if so.... open up the playbook for more songs..... gimme some Killers Mr. Brightside, ACDC, Queen, Guns n Roses, etc.

Wonder if Doc Nix is pissed that he has to share time with a DJ and seems even more now that they may let this DJ perform more if moving him over to the student section.

Seems the students don't care, so done with trying to cater to them...so just let them wallow away on their phones in their section. Cater to your core fans - the 30 somethings and up.

VT for men's and women's games have one of the best student game atmospheres that I can recall around Virginia schools. The student section is very engaged and standing majority of the game and dressed up, yelling, cheering and making/holding signs, and very knowledgeable about their team and opponents. No DJ, they use their pep band.

I remember hearing a VT Women's basketball recruit a couple years ago say on a video "Why she chose VT" and her answer was consistently having a large crowd and fanbase attending and engaging with the school and games was a big reason she committed to VT - sometimes the simplest fan engagement and support goes a long way in the eyes of players/recruits... they want to play in those types of packed and hyped environments on a year to year basis.

When I first read the article my immediate reaction to “collaboration with the band” was that’s not what the band wants

Not sure I'm impressed by any of this. The DJ just takes air time away from the band, and I'm sure it will be more of the "Stand up, Get loud, etc" stuff that just seems so lame. And the patio has always been available to Gold Room folks as long as they didn't mind the cold, the rain, and having to knock on the doors to get someone to let them back in. Putting tables out there and unlocking the doors ain't gonna help much in Dec-Feb. Some tents and space heaters would make a difference.

Bay City Rollers music can only be played at games played on Saturday nights.

No idea if these will be positive changes or not. But we've complained for years about the gameday experience and atmosphere, so I'm glad they're at least trying new things and not just continuing to ignore the issue.
Yeah absolutely this. Hopefully everything flows together nicely between the DJ / Band / Students etc whatever to make the games more "fun" and less "stiff". I get it isn't exactly easy to get people cheering loud when we are playing the blind and deaf sisters of Fairfax and winning by 35 but at least there are some new fresh ideas being implemented. For years we heard only excuses, and there are good attempts to try to overcome legitimate issues and not continue to make excuses.

A little more info on the Gold Room changes from the Patriot Club website:

We are making strategic updates to the Gold Room experience. As part of our commitment to enhancing the game day atmosphere and improving premium offerings, we are actively reimagining the Gold Room space to increase both the quality and functionality of the area. These enhancements aim to deliver a more engaging and enjoyable hospitality experience.

Gold Room access will now be provided through a $750 annual donation per pass. Your season ticket priority seat requirement is eligible to be applied toward the cost of your pass. For example, if your seat requires a $600 donation, an additional $150 would secure one Gold Room pass. Passes are available up to the number of season tickets possessed, and additional passes may be requested for an additional Patriot Club donation, based on availability.

We are also transitioning from traditional buffet-style meals to a rotating selection of high-quality finger foods and convenient snacks, designed to enhance variety and guest satisfaction. Guests can also enjoy exclusive beverage offerings, including the Brave & Bold Commonwealth IPA.
